Joshua Rufus Roper Family
Joshua Rufus Roper (b 1869 Cherokee Co. NC d 1954 Tarrant Co. TX bur Ellis Co. OK) moved with his parents, William Washington Roper and Cynthia Arminta Hall, to Christian Co. MO in 1883 and on to Howell Co. MO in 1888. He said that he walked the entire distance beside the family horses and wagon. He married Amanda Cordelia Sarah Catherine Little, who had migrated with her family from Union Co. GA (across the border from Cherokee Co. NC) to Howell Co. MO. Cordelia is from the Capt. Daniel Little family. He traded his farm in MO for one in Ellis Co. OK in 1910 and took the family there by train. J. R. never learned to drive and was constantly seen walking from one place to another. He regularly went back to NC to visit relatives. The author of these genealogy web pages benefited much from J. R.'s interest in the family.
